This week, Somalia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dahir Hasan, accompanies Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and his delegation at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The high-level meeting, centered on the theme “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations,” holds special significance for Somalia as the nation continues to push forward in its efforts for peace and development.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s participation at the UNGA presents an important opportunity for Somalia to highlight its achievements, ongoing challenges, and future aspirations in front of the global community. To advance Somalia’s agenda and priorities, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, is accompanying Prime Minister Hamza’s delegation.
Ambassador Dahir is pivotal in advancing Somalia’s diplomatic mission in the United States and will be instrumental in these critical discussions.
Somalia has made significant strides in areas such as security stabilization, economic recovery, and human development. However, much work remains to address the needs of vulnerable populations, rebuild institutions, and foster sustainable development. The theme of this year’s UNGA resonates with Somalia’s goals of creating a more inclusive future while addressing the lingering impacts of conflict and climate change.
The Somali Embassy in the U.S. is actively engaged in contributing to policy discussions around these themes. As the world gathers in New York, the embassy remains committed to advocating for Somalia’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous future where no one is left behind.
The 79th UNGA provides an essential platform for Somalia to engage with international partners, foster cooperation, and emphasize the importance of collective action in addressing global challenges that transcend borders.
