Proof of NIRA ID application is now required when applying for a Somali passport.
- If you don’t have proof of NIRA ID application, don’t pay and apply for a passport unless you are coming to Washington, DC.
- The Embassy will not issue a refund to any applicant, outside of Washington, D.C., who pays for a passport application without uploading valid proof of a NIRA National ID card application. This applies regardless of the reason the proof was missing, incomplete, or invalid at the time of payment.

You must not have had a previous passport. The Immigration and Citizenship Agency records all previous and current information, so please provide accurate and truthful details.
We only process new passports and renewals of expired passports. Lost passports are not processed.
