Ambassador Dahir Hassan Launches an Online Somali Language Course for Diaspora Youth in the U.S.

Washington, DC – November 17, 2024

In a gesture of cultural preservation, Ambassador Dahir Hassan announced the launch of a free online Somali language course tailored for Somali-American children and youth. This initiative was revealed during a warm welcoming ceremony hosted by the Somali community in the DMV area.

Ambassador Dahir emphasized the importance of nurturing the Somali identity among diaspora communities, particularly the younger generation. “Language is the foundation of culture and identity. By empowering our youth with the tools to learn Somali, we are ensuring that our heritage thrives for generations to come,” the Ambassador stated.

The online course, which includes a certificate of completion, is designed to make learning accessible and engaging for diaspora families. It aligns with broader efforts to strengthen ties between Somalia and the United States while fostering a deep connection to Somali culture and values.

The Embassy of Somalia in Washington, D.C., is proud to support this meaningful initiative and invites Somali-American families to take advantage of it. Details on how to enroll will be announced soon on the embassy’s official platforms.
