H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Arrives in Las Anod to Inaugurate the Northeastern State of Somalia

Washington, DC – His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived today in Las Anod, the administrative capital of Somalia’s Northeastern State. This visit marks an important moment in the federalization process of the Federal Republic of Somalia, advancing the integration of the Northeastern State as the newest Federal Member State. 

The President’s visit is anchored by three primary strategic objectives:

  1. Official Inauguration of President Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will preside over the official inauguration of H.E. President Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye). This ceremony serves as the formal inauguration of the Northeastern State’s status as a fully recognized Federal Member State, ensuring the region’s political representation and participation within the Federal Government of Somalia’s constitutional framework. 
  2. Strengthening National Unity and Fostering Social Cohesion In an effort to sustain stability, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will convene extensive consultative meetings with a broad spectrum of the Northeastern State’s stakeholders. His Excellency will engage directly with political leadership, community elders, intellectuals, as well as representatives from youth and women’s organizations. These high-level dialogues are designed to galvanize collective efforts toward preserving peace, deepening social cohesion, and ensuring that all segments of the population are active participants in the unity and progress of Somalia.
  3. Launching Strategic Development Initiatives Recognizing the region’s vast economic potential, the President will outline a development roadmap for the Northeastern State. These initiatives will focus on harnessing the region’s substantial livestock, energy reserves and critical mineral deposits, as well as capitalizing on the blue economy to drive sustainable economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure development for the benefit of the local community.
